Professional Pumpkin Painting by Denise A. Wells

              You Will Need:

              -Q-tips –Water based markers

              - Paper towels -Ball point pens -Acrylic paints -Clear Acrylic spray

Begin by cleaning the surface of the pumpkin(s) you will be decorating. Use the water based markers to draw out the design you will be painting. This method will be helpful in making the design as accurate as possible because the surface of the pumpkin will be as easy to erase as a dry erase board! Erase any lines you wish by dampening the Q-tips and removing any unwanted lines or errors with it. You then redraw the picture/design with the ball point pen (unlike the marker lines these will be permanent). Allow the pen lines to dry for a few seconds. The picture will be clear and clean when you use a damp paper towel to wipe off the marker lines. NOTE: Do not use permanent markers (such as Sharpies) in place of the ball point pens! I had to learn the hard way that they smear/run down the surface of the pumpkin when the last Acrylic coat is applied and can ruin the overall look of the finished pumpkin.

Paint the designs with Acrylic paint-this paint is a liquid plastic and dries very quickly. I have been painting pumpkins for 12 years now. If you start this year you will get better and better - the whole point is to have FUN!

Finish pumpkin with Acrylic spray, two coats should be plenty. The spray will help protect all your hard work-pumpkin can last up to 4 months!

*make sure all the marker lines are erased before you begin painting or they may mix with the paint and change the colors.

February 3rd 1992 Current mood: blessed Category: Life
Gave birth to my son at 4:03 this morning. Labor wasn't quite as bad as I had thought (and heard) it would be. My li'l boy - Cameron Kegan Wells was worth any discomfort I faced during those hours. I just Love Him To Death!! It is now 8:20 PM Approx. 16 hrs After my son's birth. I fed him not too long ago ( 7:30 - 7:55) and he did real well. Had lots of visitors today Including: Mom, Emily, M.J., Rube, Robbie, Viv, Bert. Also got Lots of Flowers -N- Stuff. Vivian came over in the evening to watch 'The Broken Cord' and to eat ice-cream.She told me Grams (Doris) and Gramps (Bert) are coming down this next weekend and so is Bert Lee! ------------------------------------------------------------------------*This Is my Diary entry as I wrote it 17 years ago. Brings back memories....... Foster Home Pt. 2I decided to call Vivian V. when I was about 6 months pregnant. I had had a bad argument with my mother and decided to ask Vivian if she would come with me when I gave birth to my baby. She imediantly said yes and invited me to stay with her in Winner, SD where her and her husband Bert and son Andy lived. I had told her I was planning on having him at the hospital there in Winner. During the remainder of my pregnancy I went to visit Viv and her family in Winner frequently and stayed for several days at a time during weekends when she wasn't working. I remember attending a basketball game where Andy was playing and seeing a young mother holding her newborn baby in the crowd. I was fascinated with how small and delicate the baby looked and couldn't believe that soon I would have one of my own.Vivian's family accepted me into their home again and I enjoyed attending Baseball and Basketball games Andy was in. Going to church and showing off my son's progress as he grew. I kept in contact with the VanEssens over the years and in 2005 decided to move to Yankton, SD where my foster mother lived. She offered to help me move renting a U Haul and letting me and Cameron live at her place until I found a job and an Apartment of my own. I had Cameron baptised at the Methodist Church there in Winner when he was 7 days old by my foster father Bert who was the minister there at the time......-- -- --- --- --- --- --- ---- ---- ----Sunday February 9th 1992Got baby Baptised. Had dinner with VanEssens in winner. Me, Mom, M.J., and Cameron, Robbie and big Bert, Bert Lee, Kathy (Bert Lee's girlfriend), Grandpa Bert and Grandma Doris, Vivian and Andy. Took pictures of everyone. Grandpa Bert keeps saying he's going to kidnap Cameron. Yeah Right! :) --- -- --- --- --- --- --- --- ---My mom Sybil went to the baptism and I thought that was real courageous of her. We also went to a dinner at the VanEssens home after the baptism. She never said anything negative about the VanEssens or the fact that I stayed with them sometimes during the end of my pregnancy. Although me and my Mother had difficult times over the years just before her death, I will always remember how much she loved her grandson Cameron and her other grandchildren. She enjoyed spoiling them and spending time with them whenever she could and she took care of Cameron when I needed to go shopping or run errands and even bought him a new dryer so I could do his laundry. She struggled with alcoholism her whole adult life, she went to counselling and facilities to treat her alcoholism but ended up succumbing to it once again. We, my brother Ron and Sis Em were with her during this time and saw her struggle with the disease. No one can say she didn't try to quit drinking because she really did try. I moved into my own apartment in town when I was 21 yrs old and lived there for 15 years.I will always remember the last two visits with my Mom . They were some of the best conversations we had ever had. She told me she knew I would be a good mother and she was proud of me and my efforts, She said she was glad to see her grandchildren and be in there lives. She also said she knew she was going to be leaving us soon and she was ready to go. My mother, Sybil Ann Poorman-Wells passed away on April 12th 1994. She was only 51 years old. I know she is watching over us all even today but that will never make up for the void in our lives in her absence. Love You Mom, R.I.P.
